HOW TO SEW A WITCHES HAT
Follow along with my step-by-step YouTube tutorial to learn how to make a witch hat. This sewing project is beginner-friendly!
Materials needed
- Black paper – preferably a thicker one (8 inches)
- Divider, or use a pen and a thread as I did to make a half-circle
- Scissors
- Glue
- Crepe paper or any other suitable soft fabric. I used one from a gift-wrapping bag.
- Hot glue gun for spiderweb. If you don’t have one, you can just draw it with some paint or add stickers
- Decorations – anything you find at home: some glitter, diamonds, spiders… Whatever comes to your mind
- Thread and a needle
- Skinny headband or a hair clip – depends on what you will do
Instructions
Here are simplified step-by-step instructions for making a DIY witch hat:
- Draw a half-circle on paper using a divider or pen and thread. Cut it out.
- Cut off about 1/4 from the inner circle of the half-circle pattern piece.
- Glue heavyweight fusible interfacing to the wrong side of one of the brim fabric pieces. Place the two brim pieces wrong sides together and fuse or glue.
- Cut a rectangle of soft fabric or crepe paper measuring about 40×15 cm. Fold it in half lengthwise as shown in the video tutorial.
- Sew the long edge of the folded fabric rectangle using a basic running stitch to form the cone of the hat.
- Glue the cone together along the stitched edge, with the wrong sides facing.
- Decorate the witch hat as desired with ribbons, tulle, glitter, etc. Let your creativity run wild!
- Optionally, use a hot glue gun to add a spiderweb design on the hat for an extra spooky touch.
- Glue the completed witch hat to a skinny headband or hair clip so it can be worn.
- For the most detailed step-by-step instructions, watch my video tutorial. I go through the entire process thoroughly so you can easily follow along.
Trust me, I’m just a regular mom and not an expert sewer. So if I can make this cute witch hat, anyone can! It’s a fun and easy DIY project.
